St. Joseph’s Social Care is a nonprofit organization based in Grand Forks, ND, dedicated to helping individuals and families in crisis. Guided by a committed Board of Directors, we offer essential services that restore hope and dignity, and we believe in the power of community to lift each other up.

Founded in the spirit of Catholic social teaching, we welcome all people with respect, compassion, and non-judgment.

Our Mission

St. Joseph’s Social Care, a Catholic Charity, provides assistance to individuals and families in need without regard to race, religion, or national origin. By meeting basic needs, St. Joseph’s inspires hope and empowers persons to reach their fullest potential. St. Joseph’s advocates for those in need, promotes their dignity and self-worth, and strives to walk with them, learn from them, and see in them the presence of God.

Our Leadership

Mickey Munson, Executive Director

Mickey, a proud North Dakotan originally from Minot and now living in Thompson, is passionate about helping the community thrive. With a Bachelor of Science from Minot State University (2000) and over 16 years of experience as an account manager in Grand Forks, Mickey brings valuable expertise in sales, marketing, and communication to the St. Joseph’s team.

For more than two decades, Mickey has actively served on various boards and community organizations in Thompson. Outside of work, Mickey enjoys spending time outdoors and cheering on the UND hockey team.

1997
St. Joseph’s is Formed

Under our original name, “The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Grand Forks”, St. Joseph’s began to offer assistance to the local community.

2000
Thrift Store Moved

In July of 2000, St. Joseph’s Thrift Store began operations at 620 8th Ave. S., Grand Forks.

2005
Empty Bowls Began

Our first annual Empty Bowls event took place, helping to fight hunger in the Grand Forks community.

2007
Storage Expansion

Two double garages were constructed for storage of food bank and thrift store items.

2008
Summer Lunch Program Started

During the summer of 2008, our Free Summer Lunch for Youth program was started. As of 2025, we serve 20,000 free lunches to local children each year.
